Breaking a curse was produced over an intensive 5-day workshop lead by Simon Njami and Andrew Tshabangu in Harare, 2018. Inside the artist's book, the reader will find an adapted and reconstructed Psalm; only a fraction of the ‘original’ remains. Initially, written it the artist's mother tongue and then translated to English, the book was passed around for a cycle of telling and retelling, to continue. So far, Russian, Ndebele, Zulu, French, Swahili, Italian, German, Afrikaans and Shona are some of the languages that can be found in the book. With each translation of a translation, the original text becomes distorted, disjointed - altogether a new text emerges and in doing so a curse could be attempted to be broken.
